Where is Your Happy Ending?

By: Okunola Michael Ayodele

INTRODUCTION: THE QUEST FOR A HAPPY ENDING

In the books we read and the movies we watch, the story always seems to end with joy, success, reconciliation, or breakthrough.
But real life โ€” especially life here in Nigeria and across Africa โ€” often tells a different story. For many, it feels like the ending keeps shifting farther away the harder they try.
โ€ข You gave your youth to serve your family, yet no one remembers your sacrifices.
โ€ข You invested years in education, yet youโ€™re still searching for a job.
โ€ข You gave your best in a relationship, yet ended up alone.
โ€ข You pray, you fast, you work โ€” but life keeps knocking you down.

So you ask silently in the night: Where is my happy ending? When will it be my turn?
But let me tell you the truth: Your happy ending is not lost. It is being written โ€” in the dark, in the waiting, in the places no one sees.

๐Ÿ”Ž THE AFRICAN REALITY: A THOUSAND REASONS TO QUIT

In Africa, the burden is deeper:
โ€ข A young girl dreams of becoming a lawyer, but gets forced into early marriage in northern Nigeria.
โ€ข A boy in the slums of Kibera, Kenya, walks miles daily to attend school with torn sandals and an empty stomach.
โ€ข A widow in Port Harcourt, abandoned by family, sells petty items just to feed her children.
โ€ข A retiree in Ghana, after years of national service, now begs the same government for delayed pension.

These are not fairy tales โ€” they are the real, raw stories of many around us. And yet, even in these ashes, destinies rise.
Africa is the land of buried talents and silenced dreams. But it is also the land of resilient spirits, unbowed heads, and miraculous comebacks. You may be knocked down, but your story is not finished.

๐Ÿ’” LONELINESS: THE HIDDEN WAR

Letโ€™s talk truth โ€” loneliness is eating many alive.
In our culture, we often hide our pain behind bold faces, loud music, and flowing agbadas. But behind the fine clothes are broken hearts.
โ€ข The widow no one visits.
โ€ข The young man surrounded by noise but unseen in his soul.
โ€ข The graduate whose phone never rings for a job interview.
โ€ข The married woman dying in silence because she has no one she can trust.

Loneliness is not just the absence of people; itโ€™s the absence of connection, validation, and shared dreams. But remember this:
โ€œSometimes, you must walk alone to prove that you donโ€™t need a crowd to carry purpose.โ€
โ€” Michael Ayodele

โœŠ๐Ÿฝ STAY IN IT โ€” EVEN WHEN IT MAKES NO SENSE

Thereโ€™s a reason youโ€™re still breathing.
Thereโ€™s a reason life didnโ€™t end when that marriage crashed.
Thereโ€™s a reason you didnโ€™t die in that accident or sickness.
Thereโ€™s a reason your dreams keep haunting you at night โ€” theyโ€™re calling you to finish your story.
Your happy ending is not in escape, itโ€™s in endurance.
Itโ€™s not in envy, itโ€™s in elevation through faith.
Itโ€™s not in quitting, itโ€™s in quiet persistence.
โ€œThe darkest hour comes just before dawn.โ€ โ€” Thomas Fuller
โ€œEven a hungry lion does not eat its own leg.โ€ โ€” African Proverb
โ€œHe who walks through the fire barefoot is never afraid of rain.โ€ โ€” Nigerian Proverb

Donโ€™t give up yet. Donโ€™t tear your script because the chapter is painful. Keep writing.

๐ŸŒฑ REAL LIFE: THE WOMAN WHO PLANTED HER ENDING

Meet Mama Rachel in Ibadan. Widowed at 38 with four children, she sold fried plantain at Bodija market. While others mocked her, she taught her children integrity and hard work. They studied by candlelight and prayed through hunger.

Today, one is a university professor, another a medical doctor, one runs a foundation for single mothers, and the last is a gospel artist. Her happy ending did not come from sudden miracles. It came from consistent sacrifice, and choosing to stay in the story.

Your story too โ€” no matter how scattered โ€” can still end in glory.

โœจ WHAT TO DO WHILE WAITING FOR YOUR ENDING

  1. Own your pain โ€” but donโ€™t marry it. Itโ€™s okay to cry. Just donโ€™t build your house in sorrow.
  2. Speak life to yourself. Say it aloud: โ€œMy story will not end in shame.โ€
  3. Cut off shame โ€” not your hope. Shame kills faster than failure.
  4. Invest in relationships, not just results. Many are suffering because they chased achievements and ignored people.
  5. God sees you. Donโ€™t give up on Him โ€” He hasnโ€™t given up on you.

QUOTABLE QUOTES & AFRICAN WISDOM

โ€œWhen the music changes, so does the dance.โ€ โ€” African Proverb
โ€œIt is not the load that breaks you, but how you carry it.โ€ โ€” Lena Horne
โ€œA person with purpose can survive any storm.โ€ โ€” Okunola Michael Ayodele
โ€œThe road may be long, but it doesnโ€™t mean it wonโ€™t end in joy.โ€ โ€” Zambian Proverb
โ€œJust because the page is dark doesnโ€™t mean the book is cursed.โ€ โ€” Word for Change

๐Ÿ CLOSING WORD: WRITE YOUR ENDING WITH COURAGE

Dear friend, this life may not be perfect, but you can finish it well.
You can rewrite the narrative. You can rise again. Your happy ending may not look like others โ€” but it will reflect your own beauty, growth, and victory.

Where is your happy ending?
Itโ€™s not far. Itโ€™s within you, waiting to be birthed through faith, patience, and relentless hope.

๐ŸŽฏ WORD FOR CHANGE
โ€ข โ€œYouโ€™re not forgotten. Youโ€™re being refined.โ€
โ€ข โ€œStay in the storm; the rainbow needs rain.โ€
โ€ข โ€œYou are the author โ€” donโ€™t die before the last chapter.โ€
โ€ข โ€œThe sun doesnโ€™t need permission to rise โ€” neither do you.โ€
