VISION & MISSION STATEMENTS — OWN YOUR LIFE BEFORE OTHERS USE IT FOR THEIRS

By: Okunola Michael Ayodele

“Until you discover your personal vision, you’ll keep working hard to fulfill someone else’s.” – Dr. Myles Munroe

👁‍🗨 THE IRONY OF PURPOSE
Every morning, millions clock in at jobs where they proudly align with their organization’s vision and mission — “To be the market leader…” or “To deliver world-class solutions…”

Yet many of these same individuals have never defined the vision and mission of their own lives.

We commit to boardroom strategies but live our lives by default. We pursue KPIs and targets, yet can’t answer:
What am I really here for?
Where am I going?
Why was I created?

“He who has a why to live can bear almost any how.” – Friedrich Nietzsche

📜 WHAT IS A PERSONAL VISION & MISSION STATEMENT?
Vision: The picture of the future you see for yourself — who you want to become, where you’re headed.

Mission: The action plan — how you intend to get there, the values that guide your steps.

An organization without a vision drifts. A person without one dies slowly inside.

“Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others.” – Jonathan Swift
“Your mission gives meaning to your motion.” – Okunola Michael Ayodele

🧭 THE COST OF NOT HAVING YOUR OWN
You live on autopilot — just following routines without direction.

You become reactive — easily swayed by trends, people, and pressure.

You work hard but go nowhere — you climb the ladder only to realize it’s leaning on the wrong wall.

You borrow other people’s dreams — until you don’t even recognize your own voice anymore.

“Don’t be pushed around by the fears in your mind. Be led by the dreams in your heart.” – Roy T. Bennett

🔑 CREATING YOUR PERSONAL VISION & MISSION STATEMENT
Ask yourself:
🔹 What do I love doing?
🔹 What problem do I feel born to solve?
🔹 What legacy do I want to leave behind?
🔹 What values will I never compromise?

Then write your own statement:
My Vision: To become a voice of influence, transformation, and impact in my generation.
My Mission: To inspire minds, restore hope, and develop leaders through words, wisdom, and works of service.

“Your life is your message to the world. Make sure it’s inspiring.” – Lorrin L. Lee

🧭 Words For Change
💡 If your job has a mission and you don’t, your future is on lease.
💡 The greatest tragedy is not death, but life lived without purpose.
💡 Your mission is not a motto — it’s your manual.
💡 Until your life has vision, your effort remains division.
💡 Don’t just fulfill a company’s dream — fulfill yours too.

📌 Today’s Action Plan
🔹 Focus: Your life needs a mission as much as your job does.
🔹 Action: Take 15 minutes to write your personal Vision and Mission statement. Frame it. Reflect on it daily.
🔹 Reflection: If your life were a company, what would be your reason for existing?
