WHY DO YOU WANT TO QUIT?

By: Okunola Michael Ayodele

โ€œVoices of Hope for Troubled Heartsโ€

๐Ÿ”ฅ INTRODUCTION: WHEN QUITTING FEELS LIKE THE ONLY OPTION

Why do you want to quit?
Is it because your best was never enough?
Because the doors keep closing no matter how hard you knock?
Because youโ€™re tired of smiling in public and breaking in private?
Because the loneliness is deafening, and hope feels like a cruel joke?
I understand. Iโ€™ve been there, and so have countless others across Nigeria, Africa, and the world. The pain is real, the tears are unexplainable, and the darkness can feel endless.
But still, I ask you again: Why do you want to quit?

๐Ÿ’” REAL-LIFE AFRICAN STRUGGLES: YOU ARE NOT ALONE

From the ghettos of Ajegunle to the rural plains of Eldoret, from the unemployed graduate in Jos to the 58-year-old retiree with no pension in Accraโ€”everywhere you turn, someone is fighting a silent battle.
โ€ข A young man spends 10 years at home after university, submitting CVs that never get a response. He begins to feel worthless.
โ€ข A widow with three children sells vegetables by the roadside, yet can barely afford to send her daughter to school.
โ€ข A teenager is addicted to porn and is drowning in guilt, praying God would just take the desire away.
โ€ข A pastor feels like a failure because his members are leaving, and his prayers donโ€™t seem to โ€œmove mountainsโ€ anymore.
These are our stories. This is Africa. But these are also the stories of those who chose to stayโ€”who refused to quit.

๐Ÿง  THE MENTAL WAR: LONELINESS, DEPRESSION, AND SILENCE

Quitting doesnโ€™t always mean suicide or walking away from life.
Sometimes it looks like:
โ€ข Shutting down emotionally
โ€ข Withdrawing from people
โ€ข Losing passion for purpose
โ€ข Doubting everythingโ€”even God
Loneliness is not just being alone. It is feeling unseen, unheard, and unloved. Itโ€™s sleeping in a full house but feeling empty inside. Itโ€™s posting on social media and still crying yourself to sleep.
But hear me, loneliness is not your destinationโ€”it is a passing phase.
โ€œEven in a crowd, the heart can be alone. But it is better to be alone with hope than surrounded by noise without purpose.โ€

๐Ÿ›‘ ASK YOURSELF: WHY QUIT NOW?

What if tomorrow is the breakthrough youโ€™ve prayed for?
What if your story is the answer to someone elseโ€™s prayer?
What if your delay is not denial, but divine preparation?

๐ŸŒฑ YOU CAN STILL RISE โ€“ STORIES OF COMEBACK

Blessing was raped at 14, got pregnant, and was thrown out of school. Today, she is a voice for teenage mothers and owns an NGO.
Adewale, a graduate of engineering, became a security guard to survive. Today, he runs a thriving logistics business after taking an online course with his first salary.
Mama Ruth, at 63, lost all her children in a car crash. She went into depression but started caring for abandoned children. Today, 17 of those children are graduates.
These people faced what youโ€™re facingโ€”but they didnโ€™t quit.
And if they didnโ€™t, you mustnโ€™t.

๐Ÿ’ฌ QUOTES TO KEEP YOU GOING

โ€œThe darkest nights produce the brightest stars.โ€
โ€” John Green
โ€œDonโ€™t give up. There are too many people you havenโ€™t disappointed yet.โ€
โ€” African street saying
โ€œDo not look where you fell but where you slipped.โ€
โ€” African Proverb
โ€œEven the lion, king of the jungle, roars not every dayโ€”but he never forgets heโ€™s king.โ€
โ€” Igbo Proverb (Adapted)
โ€œIโ€™m not telling you itโ€™s going to be easy. Iโ€™m telling you itโ€™s going to be worth it.โ€
โ€” Art Williams

๐Ÿ›  WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE QUITTING

  1. Breathe โ€“ Donโ€™t make permanent decisions in temporary pain.
  2. Speak Out โ€“ Call someone. Share the load. Youโ€™re not a burden.
  3. Rest, Donโ€™t Retreat โ€“ Even God rested on the 7th day.
  4. Refocus โ€“ You may be climbing the wrong ladder. Shift direction, not purpose.
  5. Reconnect with God โ€“ He still speaks in the silence. Ask Him again.

๐Ÿ›ค STAY THE COURSE: WHY YOU MUST REMAIN IN IT

Remain because the world hasnโ€™t seen your best yet.
Remain because your scars will soon be your strength.
Remain because the child youโ€™re mentoring, the youth watching your journey, and the stranger youโ€™ll inspire all need your survival story.
Donโ€™t deprive the world of the fire in you just because today feels cold.
โ€œThere is no testimony without a test, and no sunrise without a night.โ€

๐ŸŽฏ WORD FOR CHANGE: FINAL DECLARATION

You were born for such a time as this.
You are not weak for feeling tired. You are human.
But humans were made in the image of God, and God doesnโ€™t quit on what He created.
So before you say โ€œI give up,โ€ say this:
โ€œI may bend, but I will not break. I may cry, but I will rise. I may be tired, but I will not quit.โ€
